Cardigan Bay Lobsters
Chris Hicks is a local lobster and prawn fisherman. He and his father fish out of New Quay and can bring in fresh lobster every week, weather permitting. The lobster season runs from April to November and only fully grown lobsters are caught, with anything undersize being thrown back.
Chris and his father have up to 450 pots at the height of the season and most of his catch is exported to Spain, where they get a great price for such a premium product. Chris hopes that by working with us more of what he catches can be enjoyed locally.
Chris is a member of the Seafish Responsible Fishing Scheme (RFS) . This ensures that the fish has been caught in a huimane way, removed from a managed fishery and has been handled on the vessel in a way that ensures the animals health has been taken into account at every stage in the process.
